Reflection
I am the mathematical expert in my classroom and having confidence in this fact has helped me develop questions that provoke mathematical discourse. Considering that I know the end result of what I want my students to accomplish I will plan accordingly.
As I have grown as a teacher throughout this process with the classes I have taken, my students will reap the wealth of my newfound knowledge. They will now have the benefit of my teaching development. I have grown as a teacher and built confidence in my methods of questioning.
Giving my students time to discuss their thinking with their peers and I, will help them develop and blossom as mathematical thinkers no matter their skill level. Mathematical discourse is the process of guiding them through this new method of perceiving math. As we engage in mathematical discourse they will build the confidence to persevere and reach their full potential (Webb, N., & Farivar, S. 1994).
