Research Questions
How will I help my students realize their full potential no matter their skill level? How can I help them to understand that with perseverance they can be successful?
Reflection
First and for most I need to know my students and their needs, so that I can develop my lessons, projects, homework, and assessments based on their abilities and needs. This will also help develop questions that students at any level can assess. I need to be in the moment and listen to my students and their thought and ideas. You have to know what you want your students to accomplish to design your lessons and assessments. It takes time but as long as I never stop learning and developing as a teacher then I will always have tools to better my teaching practices.
I have to help my students develop their confidence in themselves as mathematicians and problem solvers. They need to know that there is no special math gene. Mathematics has to be practiced just like sports and then little by little we develop the skills needed to become mathematical thinkers. Through perseverance and stamina we all can develop confidence as mathematicians and problem solvers (Kimball, M., & Smith, N., 2013).
